From the 10^th to the 12^th Centuries CE, the Toltec people held sway over what is now central Mexico. Among other achievement, they created a long-count calendar which divides vast periods of time into a cycle of 13 ages, or Suns. The Suns alternate between ages of darkness and ages of light, and each age, consisting of 6,625 years, has its own distinct cultural and spiritual signature. Despite the times of darkness, the calendar predicts a gradual increase in consciousness which finally culminates in humanity’s profound spiritual illumination during the time of the 13^th Sun.

Beginning in the 12^th Century, the Toltec hegemony was destroyed by several groups of invaders, including the Aztecs. However, not everything was destroyed. The Aztecs adopted and preserved the Toltec calendar, keeping it alive through the brutal Spanish invasion of the 16^th Century, and the centuries of colonization that followed.

In 2005, the particular wisdom of this calendar was revealed to the modern world. It was narrated to Sergio Magana, an initiated Mexican healer and teacher, by Hugo Garcia, a man who had acquired hidden knowledge of the various pre-Colombian Mexican cultures. Magana has published the teachings he received in his book, The Real Toltec Prophecies. This calendar is now available to us all, just in time to help guide us through the imminent ending of the Fifth Sun and the beginning of the Sixth.

In the cycle of Suns, day Suns alternate with night Suns. Day Suns are eras of looking outward to the world around us, while night Suns are eras of looking inward. We are just about to leave the Fifth day Sun, an outward-focused age, and be fully under the sway of the Sixth night Sun, a time of inward focus.

As one Sun gives way to the next, there is a short transition period where the energies of the departing age give way to the very different energies of the arriving age. Magana tells us that we are very close to the end of the current transition, and about to experience the full force of the Sixth Sun as the very last vestiges of the Fifth Sun disappear around us.

Transition times always begin with an eclipse, and the current transition began with the full solar eclipse seen from Mexico City on July 11^th, 1991. It will end with the Ceremony of the New Fire, which will be held in central Mexico on November 24^th 2026.  The calendar predicts that during this transition, externally-focused developments will paradoxically lead to the establishment of an inner-focused reality. Much that has been hidden will come to light.

The Fifth Sun, which we are leaving, is a day Sun, and just as the light of day allows us to look outward, this Sun has been a time of external focus. We have looked outward to find God, and almost everything else. As individuals we have sought happiness through relationships with others, through the acquisition of external things and through our achievements in the outer world. We have avidly pursued outer knowledge, and have been adventurous and exploratory, traveling to every corner of the globe. We have developed many different sciences and technologies to describe and control the outer world. As tribes and states, driven by a need to expand and conquer new territories and their peoples, we have readily used the brutality of war. The masculine energies have been dominant, leading to harsh hierarchies of power, including the patriarchy. Male-dominated religions decreed by a male God have controlled us with rigid rules, judgments and the fear of hell realms.

The profound imbalance of this time has been the dishonoring of the feminine. Once considered a living sacredness, Mother Earth has been viewed as something inert that could be exploited, without respect or gratitude. Darkness, once the state of the generative womb of creation, has become the color of evil. Women, as the human bearers of wombs, have likewise been seen as evil. They have been seen as untrustworthy, incapable and weak, fit only to sate the desires of men and bear their children. Similarly, minorities of all kinds have been enslaved and subjected to discrimination and abuse.

However, when we look closely at the years since 1991, we can see the burgeoning of a movement from outer appearance to inner truth, a movement that had its beginnings in the Western world some 30 years before. This movement has been very much mediated by the rapid establishment of the Internet and cell phones, which have allowed people everywhere to access vast amounts of knowledge, and to connect instantly with others anywhere on Earth. This has allowed women and minorities to connect with one another and find the collective strength to demand respect. The patriarchal abuse of women, indigenous peoples and the Earth herself has been laid bare for all to see.  The communication technologies have also allowed many to seek spiritual groups and spiritual answers that are not found in established religion. The corruption of religious organizations and governments has been exposed. There has been an increasing interest in and normalization of inner work and inner awareness in the form of meditation, mindfulness practices and psychotherapy, all available via the Internet.

Humanity has been starting to face its collective unconscious and the unresolved toxic issues that have been glossed over by centuries of looking outside and away.

The calendar’s prediction is that the last nine years of the transition will be the most difficult, and we can see that truth in the planetary political events currently around us. There has been increasing polarization as many turn towards the new consciousness, while many cling fiercely to the old ways. Both sides see the other as the enemy of all that is good.

The calendar’s prophecy states that the coming of the Sixth Sun is inevitable. The whole world will be forced to transform, either through change or destruction. One way or another, the Sixth Sun will end the way of life of the Fifth Sun, but how well we come though the change will depend on our inner work. Those who start to adapt to the energies of the Sixth Sun will find peace and health, but those who grasp tightly to what they have known will suffer adversity because of their rigid, intolerant thoughts and feelings. They will suffer greatly.

The transformation of humanity is predicted to take place in four stages. First, there will be a great deal of fear as many catastrophes unfold, giving us the choice to respond to our fear with denial, or with increased motivation for inner work. Next, there will be an unprecedented economic collapse, and again we can respond in either of two ways, with fear and paralysis, or adaptation and innovation. Then, partly due to solar activity, our extraordinary communication technologies will fail, leaving us ignorant of all that is happening in the larger world. This will prompt us to rely on our close community. Lastly there will be anger, violence, rioting and looting as the Fifth Sun ends, and we will have the choice to join the violence or turn away.

During the transition to the Sixth Sun, the Earth will perform cleansings by many different means. There will be earthquakes and pandemics as she unhesitatingly does away with all that is no longer necessary. Those who wish to stay here and move into the next Sun will need the approval of Earth to do so. However, the Earth is as much creator as destroyer, and will provide the energy needed to generate a new life for humanity. Among other things we will find ourselves with more resilient bodies through an improved immune system.

After the chaos of the transition, the Sixth Sun will nurture a new humanity. This will be a world of racial and gender equality, of inner rather than outer focus, and a world in which solving the problems of our inner selves will be the only means of true survival.

Our external vision will become unimportant, and we will turn inwards. We will listen to the inner voice that helps us understand our psyches, our underworlds and our souls. If we are spiritually developed, we may have lucid dreams and understand that the origin of many of our waking experiences lies in dreams. We will see our true nature beyond our apparent appearance, and will escape the illusions we create when we project our inner distortions onto the world around us. We will see with our inner eyes the forces that we cannot see in daylight, including the forces that rule the existence of everything that is. We will see darkness as the benevolent, infinitely creative Cosmic Mother, and will know that consciousness, Hers and ours, always comes before matter.

This will be a time of great opportunity for spiritual growth on a personal level. All false understandings of God will dissolve, and Quetzalcoatl, the pure essence of God, will return. The serpent energy Quequetzalcoatl, which we have called kundalini, will rise in those who have acquired spiritual enlightenment, bringing ever increasing illumination to all of humanity.

However, even greater things await us in the far reaches of evolutionary time. By the age of the Twelfth Sun, almost 40 millennia from now, we will reach a true Golden Age where there is no shadow, no unconsciousness, just a complete awareness of all that is.

But it will be the Thirteenth and final Sun that brings our greatest spiritual flowering. At last we will realize our destiny as souls and experience an infinite expansion of consciousness. We will enter fully into the mind of God, and like God, know the ability to create parallel universes just as God created the universe that has nurtured our ascent to our own God nature.
