The Pachacuti. The Quechua-Incan Prophecy
For over five hundred years the Incan prophecy has been kept alive by a tiny band of people directly descended from the Incas. They have lived a secret existence in the very highest part of the Andes mountains of Peru, only being discovered by Westerners in 1949. We owe these people – who speak Quechua and call themselves the Q’ero – great respect for their remarkable dedication to their ancient wisdom and way of life, a dedication that has made their prophecy available to us as visionary guidance for the chaotic times we now find are upon us.
The Q’ero are the very last of the Incas who fled to the Andean highlands after the genocidal Spanish invasion of 1492. One of the sacred objects they took with them was the Solar Disc, which embodies, represents and emanates our spiritual nature, or Sun self. They have also kept alive their sacred prophecy of the Pachacuti, which are the successive eras of long time, releasing it to the Western world only in the last few decades.
The Q’ero elders are now actively sharing their wisdom with the world, courageously leaving their villages to share the fundamental principles on which the Incas and other native peoples have based their civilizations. We have the extraordinary opportunity to learn from them their deep knowledge about right care of the Earth. They are showing us how to respect all manifestation as sacred, including all people, all life on Earth, the Earth Herself and the Universe that surrounds us. They teach love, understanding and humility as fundamental qualities engendering respect for all that is.
So what are the Pachacuti? They are eras of time that each span 500 years, and end with great cataclysm, upheaval and transformation.
The Pachacuti before the one that has just ended was the golden age of Incan civilization, when many cities were built and connected by a web of roads winding over the between the mountains. However, the Inca foretold the arrival of the white race that would violently end that advanced age, and transform it into a time of darkness, imbalance, greed and materialism. Five hundred years later, we have finally come to the end of that age, and are at the chaotic beginning of the next Pachacuti. The Pachacuti teaching speaks of the tumultuous nature of our current world, including the environmental destruction of the Earth.
It also predicts the transformation which will occur as people change their way of thinking and becomes more conscious. This will create a transformation into a new golden age of peace, harmony and order. A new and higher planetary consciousness will replace the old dark order, and a ‘new human’ will emerge. Thus the Pachacuti represents the death of an old way of thinking about the world, and an elevation to a higher state of consciousness.
Pachacuti is also the name of an enlightened Incan ruler who lived in the late 1300’s, thought to have built Machu Picchu and many other cities in his vast empire. ‘Pachacuti’ is derived from ’pacha’ meaning ‘Earth’ or ‘time’, and ‘cuti’ meaning ‘to set things right’. Thus the name translates as ‘transformer of the Earth’. Pachacuti’s enlightened energies are now available to help us transform the dark powers of the previous era, including our distorted, destructive relationship with the Earth. Pachacuti is seen as the symbol and promise of what we all might become in a process of spiritual emergence available to all of humanity.
It is also prophesied that the Solar Disc will again be activated, and will send rays of light, wisdom and love throughout the entire world to assist in the transformation.
The prophecies refer to tumultuous changes happening within the Earth, as well as within humanity. They predict the end of time as we know it, the death of a way of thinking and the death of a way of being. The paradigm of European civilization will collapse, and with the support of the Pachacuti and the Solar Disc, be replaced with a way of being that is in harmony with the Earth.
The dominator culture will be replaced with cooperation and partnership, fixed boundaries with flow and acceptance of change, and the Letter of the Law with flexibility and direct experience. The fundamental principle of reciprocity will bring peace and unity consciousness. We will understand that we are all indivisibly parts of the Earth. She is inside us, and we are inside Her. Humanity is like a body that has been broken into pieces, but will finally become whole again.
But the prophecies are very clear that we need to actively participate in this great change of consciousness. We must first transform ourselves. Reflecting the outer chaos, tumultuous changes will happen within our psyches, redefining our relationships and spiritual understanding. This is a process centered in the heart, and this Becoming of the Heart is actually more important than the prophecies themselves.
The prophecies are clear that we must all discover within ourselves the ‘seed of light’ and the ‘seed of wisdom’ inherent in the Pachacuti, nurturing those seeds within our own luminous body. We need to live as our Sun nature, nourishing, warming and enlivening the Earth and each other just as the heavenly sun does. We must make ourselves available to this shining destiny, which is freely available to all.
We must move beyond division, war and hatred, a momentous undertaking, as many hatreds have been in existence for centuries or even millennia. All of us who have been subject to domination, genocide and devaluation must forgive our oppressors, who must in turn recognize and embrace our humanity. As long as we hold onto our hatreds, no matter how justified, we will perpetuate darkness and block the transformation. Those who have had the greatest destructive impact on the Earth will have the moral responsibility to remake their relationship with her, but first they will need to remake themselves.
The inner and outer chaos is predicted to last only four years, but with such intensity that it will result in a quantum leap in consciousness, such that humanity will finally be awake and free from fear, perceiving with the eyes of the soul and committed to the essence of the eternal Sun.
As the Andean shamans say to us all, ‘Follow your own footsteps. Learn from the rivers, the trees and the rocks. Honor the Christ, the Buddha, your brothers and sisters. Honor the Earth Mother and the Great Spirit. Honor yourself and all of creation.’
