Edgar Cayce. Prophecies for a New Millennium
Edgar Cayce is perhaps the most famous clairvoyant of the 20th Century. Starting in 1901, he spent almost four decades giving readings while seemingly asleep, completely unaware of his words and the extraordinary knowledge he was able to access. Thousands of people sought his help, mostly for puzzling medical problems. After accurately diagnosing their medical conditions he would suggest simple treatments that were often highly effective.
However, he also answered other questions, at times venturing into the realms of prophecy.
Some of his prophecies were about the immediate future of humanity and the Earth. In several readings he stated that cataclysmic geophysical upheavals were on the near horizon, and would cause enormous, widespread destruction. He said that the changes had already started, and would continue to occur over a time span that was impossible to predict, but that the year 2036 would be a time of particularly enormous upheaval. During that year, outside forces would disturb the equilibrium of the Earth in space, the sun would be darkened, and the Earth broken up in diverse places.
He also indicated that these planetary disruptions would prompt a great and greatly needed transformation in consciousness. This transformation would be driven by the immense geological changes, which would undermine our faith in technology, force us into a new humility and respect for the powers of nature, and compel us to reexamine what we have been doing to the Earth and each other.
He also stated that the planetary cataclysms and the resulting transformations in consciousness would not be random events, but would be the birth pangs of a glorious new world order based on the eternal spiritual principles of oneness, equality, love and service. He told us that we will make a huge leap in awareness to a new world that will be very different from our historical experience. We will find ourselves in a New Millennium and a new consciousness completely different from what we have known.
The geological upheavals that Cayce foretold are literally planet-shaking. He saw severe destruction in North America, including flooding of the entire Atlantic coast, the devastation of Los Angeles and San Francisco and the disappearance of the southern part of the west coast. He saw breaking up of the western parts of America and flooding of southern Nevada while the Great Lakes begin to drain southward into the Mississippi. However, the upheavals are not just in America, but are planet-wide. He saw Pacific islands both rising and being submerged, eruptions of many volcanoes including Mt Etna, Mt Pelee and Mt Vesuvius, and most of Japan disappearing into the sea. New land appears east of the Caribbean and off Tierra del Fuego. There are changes to northern Europe, open water above Greenland, changes in the Arctic and Antarctic and a pole shift that greatly alters planetary temperature patterns.
Enormous as they are, Cayce also emphasized that we are far from being passive observers of these events. On the contrary, we actually have great power to influence the severity and timing of the geological and social changes. We are actually full participants in their unfolding, and can use our creative powers and ideals for a future world as co-creators of the New Millennium. What happens depends on our attitudes, and what each individual personally does. These will determine our future, as the inner guides the outer.
These messages underline the supreme importance of our inner state. It seems that our attitudes, our spiritual awareness and our visions for a new way of being are vital. By ‘attitudes’, I imagine that Cayce means our attitudes towards ourselves, others and the planet, and whether or not we hold all three with love, understanding, kindness and care. The resulting actions will either build or inhibit the new world to come. And the vision we have of the future, whether filled with light or darkness, will affect how the future unfolds. It seems that it is up to each of us to aspire to and work towards our highest spiritual evolution, and our most enlightened vision for the future.
Cayce said that many will be unaware of what is happening during the transition times, but those who do understand will be those who have awareness of the spiritual world. He said that the spiritual understanding needed for the New Millennium is already here, but it will take a critical mass of the spiritually aware to generate the shift. However, this critical mass will be created by a relatively small number of people. Encouragingly, he also saw huge numbers seeking spiritual enlightenment as the Earth changes progressed.
Cayce said that the new human consciousness, which would appear in the 21st Century, would be so completely different that it would transform us into a new ‘root race’. He does not appear to define exactly what he means by ‘root race’, but I imagine he is referring to the fact that we will appear to have evolved into a recognizably different species of human being, perhaps one where the inner glow of divine love shows outwardly as a soft, sweet and loving radiance, while all outer actions are motivated by the kindness and care that this radiance inspires.
He also said that we will come to know that there is no death, and that our consciousness survives the demise of the body. Knowing that we cannot die, we will no longer fear death, and the fight for individual survival that has driven so much of the worst aspects of our current culture, will diminish.
It follows that all our institutions will be radically different in this new world. There will be equality, the kind of equality that springs from the equal valuing of every human being. For how could one spark of the divine be any more or any less valuable than any other? This equality of value will lead to a great leveling of society, and a very different economic system where the needs of every person are adequately met, whether physical needs, emotional needs or the need for knowledge. Cayce says that political, social, scientific and legal systems will also change. While he does not go into detail, I imagine that we might have a political system of perfect democracy and rotating office bearers. We might have a social order that has no inherent hierarchy. We might have a science that is fully integrated with eternal spiritual principles, and one where all scientific advancements are carefully weighed in terms of their effect on the wellbeing of all living things. We might have a legal system based on mediation and negotiation rather than argument, winning, guilt and punishment.
Cayce also said that medicine would change to become an energy medicine. Illness, whether emotional or physical, would be seen as an expression of energy. It follows that all treatment would consist of the harmonizing of the spiritual, emotional and physical energy fields. We will learn to access and trust the fundamental life force whose nature is inherently creative and healing, and will develop amazing self-healing capacity.
These advanced energy medicines will be only one element of human experience from bygone cultures and ages that we have forgotten, and will reclaim. We will learn how to attune to the spiritual forces that manifest in the material world, and how to tap into extrasensory knowing, including clairvoyance, telepathy and precognition. We will also rediscover the ability to harness unlimited solar energy with crystals, a sparkling clean source of energy for building a new world.
We will come to know that the Source is in fact the source of all that appears on the material plane, and that our consciousness creates our access to that abundance. Abundant resources are available to all on Earth if our consciousness is properly attuned.
But most important, we will understand that true freedom lies in harmonizing with the Will of the Divine. When we can truly say, ‘Thy Will is my Will’, when we are no longer egoically rebelling against the One, then we will experience a freedom and ease that is far beyond anything we have ever previously known.
