In 1984, Ned Dougherty was in his mid-thirties, a highly successful night-club owner, when he died for a period of time due to a heart problem. During the time that he was clinically dead, he experienced an NDE where he was given an extraordinary amount of information about the Earth’s immediate future. His experience has many of the same features as those of Kenneth Ring’s NDE interviewees, but in much greater detail.

In his book, Fast Lane to Heaven: A Life-after-Death Journey, he describes meeting the Lady of Light who presents to him many future events in his own life, and many future events for Earth.

In the 17 years between his NDE and the publishing of the book, many of the events predicted for his life eventuated in very precise ways, and he tells us that this gives him confidence in the validity of the predictions for Earth and humanity. So what are those predictions?

During Ned’s NDE, the Lady of Light (also known as Mary, mother of Christ) appeared to him standing beside a large globe. She pointed to various regions of the world as she described their future. She first pointed to Italy and the Middle East where many flashpoints of light appear, representing acts of aggression, war and terrorism. These acts are carried out in God’s name by fanatical religious groups, although they are not part of God’s plan for humanity. Ned was shown a large, arid plateau in the Middle East and told that a chain reaction of man-made catastrophic events would start there and spread to Africa, Europe, Russia and China. The Lady of Light said that the salvation of the world depended on China turning to God, and that we should specifically pray for that transformation.

As Ned watched the globe, he saw its rotational axis start to shift, causing great geological changes, including earthquakes, which change the major continents, and volcanoes erupting so violently that Earth is plunged into darkness for periods of time. The melting and moving of the polar ice caps create great floods of water. Huge tidal waves sweep over low-lying lands, including the west coast of the U.S., New York and Miami Beach. A new land mass rises out of the ocean near Miami Beach.

Ned saw that the Western Hemisphere would mostly suffer natural disasters including an increase in catastrophic storms, tornadoes and hurricanes. Severe winter conditions with large snowfalls alternate with droughts and record summer heat. There is severe tidal flooding and land erosion caused by these unpredictable weather events.

He was shown that populated areas would change greatly in response to these events, with people moving away from unstable and low-lying areas to more stable and mountainous areas.

Led by the failure of insurance companies, he saw the collapse of the financial system, and the U.S. government being unable to meet its monetary obligations. Economic, political and social chaos erupt. Because many military bases have been destroyed, the U.S. is not be able to defend itself, leaving it open to invasion, with China a special threat.

In one last terrible vision, a shadowy group of unelected, unknown people attempt to launch a world government, supposedly for the good of all humankind, but in fact create a materialistic world with no individual freedom that is a front for their own greed and lust for material wealth.

In this catalog of catastrophes, there was just one positive note, that spiritually aware people are drawn together to form groups which establish self-sustaining communities. These communities, attuned to God’s plan for humanity, become the founders of a new world.

The Lady of Light then let Ned know that all the catastrophic events she had shown him actually did not have to happen. It all depends on us.

She said that our fate rested on our ability to change our direction, individually and collectively, to align with God’s plan. She said that we could bring ourselves into alignment through prayer groups practicing both prayer and meditation, prayer to speak to God, and mediation to hear His message. She also noted the enormous power of such prayer groups – just one group of twenty could change the course of a nation.

She noted that God is currently blessing us with great love and knowledge, giving us the opportunity to find His spirit within, and to communicate directly with Him. While the future of the Earth depends on us, God is giving us enormous spiritual support to better align with Him and reduce or avert the predicted apocalypse.

Beyond the catastrophes that may occur, The Lady of Light showed Ned that God does have a plan for the future of all mankind. His plan is for a global spiritual awakening.

The spiritual awakening will be for every one of us, and will bring to each a tangible inner awareness of God, so that we will have direct access to God’s spirit. It will also include a life review where we examine the trajectory of our life so far, asking what we have done, where we are going, whether we have shown love of God and neighbor, and have been of service to humanity.

After the awakening, God will continue to send his spiritual energy to humanity as a great mantle around the planet. Supported by this mantle, those who are open will continue to grow spiritually, but those who are not will enter into greater darkness. There will also be many miraculous events including beatific visions. Healers, whose powers will greatly increase, will carry out many extraordinary physical and spiritual healings.

The Lady of Light revealed that we would not remain the same as we are now, but would evolve into a new race, one that is more spiritually transformed than our current state.

Following the messages from the Lady, Ned emphasizes that prayer is the most powerful action that we can take. He reminds us that the future of the world will not be decided by our leaders, but by the prayers of groups of people everywhere. Prayer is so powerful that it can halt natural laws and avoid catastrophic events. We can save the world from conflict and devastation with our prayers, which also nourish and heal our souls, bringing us nearer to manifesting our mission and the divine plan for our lives.

As he says,

(the) future of the world rests in our hands. If the future of the world is doomed, it is of our own making. If we aspire to lead a life of love, we can choose our destiny as a civilization.
