Near Death Experiences are a fascinating phenomenon. They are extraordinarily vivid journeys in consciousness that occur while the body and brain are clinically dead and completely unable to engage in normal cerebral activity. However, those who experience an NDE often describe it as the most real, clear, awake and luminous experience of their lives.

NDE’s usually happen during an accident or medical crisis when the body dies for a brief period of time. NDE’ers typically describe lifting out of their body and being able to see what is happening to it from above. They then enter a dark tunnel and are rapidly drawn to a bright light at its end. They emerge into an immensely bright but gentle luminosity, which is infused with an extraordinary love, by far the greatest love they have ever known. They meet one or more beings of light, either deceased loved ones, angels, or religious figures, and may also have a sense of being in the company of the infinitely loving Source, or God.

This experience is so utterly fulfilling and the love so blissful that they have no desire to return to Earth, but at some point they realize that they need to go back to care for others who depend on them, or they are told that their mission on Earth is not yet complete. Reluctantly, they agree to return, and almost immediately find themselves back in their bodies. As they integrate the experience over time, they find that they have lost all fear of death, and know without question that love is the most important aspect of all existence.

While most NDE’s follow this general pattern, there are some NDE’ers who penetrate much more deeply into the spiritual realm, and are given profound spiritual knowledge. For a small number of people, this knowledge has included a panoramic view of Earth’s entire history, from beginning to end, including the times we are currently in and what awaits us in the near future.

In 1984, Kenneth Ring published Heading Towards Omega, a book based on interviews with hundreds of people who had experienced NDE’s. Of those interviewees, 16 received prophetic visions which included the Earth’s immediate future. All had essentially the same vision.

The visions started with a sense of being in touch with the entire evolution of the Earth, but then quickly focused on a tiny slice of that history, the next few decades. What NDE’ers saw was everything becoming unstable and breaking down. They saw massive geophysical changes with increasing earthquakes and volcanic activity. They saw erratic weather patterns, droughts and famines, and dwindling food supplies. They saw a breakdown of human relationships at all levels, from the personal to the international, with resulting social disorder and other hostilities. They saw a strong possibility of nuclear war or a nuclear accident.

Infused within these visions is an understanding that this great upheaval occurs because humanity has been ignorant of True Reality, and has been defying Universal Laws with materialism, arrogance, racism, misogyny, separations and hatreds.

However, this upheaval is neither random, an end or a punishment. It has a much grander intent. Its purpose is to act as a spiritual cleansing for Earth. Humanity does survive, and the upheaval ushers in a transformation into a new, much more spiritually evolved way of being. There is a shared awakening to a higher, more spiritual collective consciousness, a consciousness which has universal love at its core.

A new era of human history is born, marked by true humility, unification, mutual care, universal love and world peace.

The NDE’ers were aware that the dates they saw for these events were not fixed. In fact, most of them saw that the planetary upheavals would start in 1988, which obviously did not happen with the magnitude that the visions seem to describe. They also saw that the exact nature of the upheavals will be affected by human actions and human openness to the spiritual. Humanity has a certain measure of agency in the exact timing and severity of these events. Thus the prophecies can be seen more as dire warnings about the likely result of the path we are currently on, the future that will potentially unfold unless we quickly attain greater spiritual awareness.

The conclusion I draw from this collection of NDE’s is that, no matter how animalistic the condition of humanity today, we cannot avoid our evolution into beings of love and peace, and the only choice is how we get there. We can remain stubbornly trapped in the greed of our animal natures until we are forced to change by the disasters those natures create. Or we can make every effort to awaken to our True Nature before the ravages of the cataclysm. Whatever increased awareness we can attain will reduce the severity of the upheavals, allowing us to transition less painfully and more gracefully into the era of peace.

The lesson seems to be that each one of us needs to make a priority of our own spiritual awakening, so that as we add incrementally to our own higher awareness, we also add to humanity’s unity consciousness, and to the possibility of collectively living as True Nature rather than as the animal body.
